Our vision is to work towards a future without stigma, and our mission is to help employers eliminate stigma in the workplace. We deliver on this mission by offering an accessible, proven program that combines personal experience with actionable guidelines to enable a positive culture change around mental illness.
stigmaZERO was founded in 2014 by Jason Finucan, who has positively impacted thousands of individuals and helped companies by sharing his expertise on mental illness and stigma.
About Jason Finucan, Founder & Stigma Expert
Jason’s unique perspective on mental illness and stigma began with a heart defect, which required open heart surgery at 12 years old. When he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at 26 years old, Jason realized the stark contrast between his two experiences was actually indicative of a greater problem.
People suffering from a mental illness face a dramatically harder path than those suffering from physical illness, which in turn greatly delays diagnosis and recovery times – and exaggerates lost productivity.
All of these challenges can be traced back to stigma.
I founded stigmaZERO to open people’s minds up to the reality of stigma. Having experienced both a major physical and mental illness, I learned what a negative – and truly unnecessary – force stigma could be.
My hope is to help employers overcome this challenge, which is the key to better managing mental illness and ultimately reducing the associated lost productivity.”
Why Work With stigmaZERO?
stigmaZERO is inspiring positive change in workplaces across the country through personal, actionable programs and keynotes on mental illness and stigma. In addition, stigmaZERO Founder and Stigma Expert Jason Finucan is sharing his insights through his regular blog posts.
By blending thought-provoking, real-life experiences with expert practical advice, Jason helps clients make meaningful progress on reducing the costs and lost productivity associated with mental illness.
Jason’s passion, authenticity and engaging delivery methods (honed by his background in Theatre & Speech Communication) make him the ideal speaker on the difficult topic of mental illness.
In addition, his unique experiences with physical and mental illness (the latter as a professional) ideally position him to offer strategic advice on how organizations can better manage this challenge. Jason has seen workplace mental illness and stigma from all perspectives – as the person suffering with the illness, as a colleague of someone facing this challenge, and as a manager when mental illness impacted a team member.
