One of the unique aspects of my stigmaZERO Workplace Program, which helps employers reduce the stigma surrounding workplace mental illness, is that I share my own personal story during the process. Doing so disarms attendees of their fears regarding this complex challenge, and often results in them sharing their personal struggles with me.
This leads me to the ripple effect of this work, and to the most rewarding aspect of what I do.
After attending one of my workshops, a manager shared with me that his son had been struggling with depression for some time. This had caused considerable stress in the family, and this manager admitted that prior to my workshop he didn’t have a clear understanding of what was happening – or how he should respond. As much as he wanted to help, he was affected by stigma.
Armed with the knowledge, awareness and actionable tools & guides from my workshop, he now felt a confidence he had never enjoyed before. He said that he would not only be able to apply this in the workplace with his team, but would also be better able to respond to the challenge with his son.
It is an awesome and humbling thing to realize you have made a real difference in someone’s lives. And I am grateful for the opportunity to do so.
However, my point about the ripple effect applies to employers, as well. Any client who engages in my stigmaZERO Workplace Program will not only be helping managers and employees better respond at work, they will also enjoy the ripple effect this program will have in their team member’s personal lives.
This ripple effect will dramatically improve workplace morale and employee productivity as a result.
